Cambodia and Malaysia Commit to Enhancing Bilateral Relations and Cooperation.

Phnom Penh: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met with his Malaysian counterpart, Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The leaders explored ways to further strengthen and expand cooperation between the two nations.

An agreement was reached during a pivotal meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, between Prime Minister Hun Manet of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The meeting took place earlier today, marking a significant step forward in the relationship between the two nations.

During their discussions, both leaders commended the achievements of their countries' past collaborations and deliberated on ways to strengthen and expand their cooperation across a variety of sectors. These include politics, defense, security, trade and investment, tourism, the halal food industry, telecommunications, information technology, digital technology, and energy security.

A notable topic of discussion was the enhancement of air connectivity, with both sides exploring the potential for increasing direct flight services from Malaysia to prominent Cambodian tourist destinations, particularly Siem Reap.

In the realm of defense and security, the leaders agreed to deepen cooperation through various means, such as human resource training, capacity building, information exchange, and the conduct of joint military exercises. They also pledged support and coordination for the submarine power transmission project connecting Laos, Cambodia, and Singapore via the Malaysian seabed, emphasizing their commitment to energy security.

Additionally, the possibility of organizing a Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) meeting, to be led by the foreign ministers of both countries, was discussed as a means to further solidify their partnership.

The prime ministers expressed their shared optimism for a strengthened and more dynamic relationship between Cambodia and Malaysia, aiming to elevate their cooperation to new heights.

Highlighting the productive talks, Hun Manet and Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim oversaw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Bank of Cambodia and Bank Negara Malaysia. This agreement focuses on cooperation in financial innovation and payment systems, underscoring the growing economic collaboration between the two countries.

Prime Minister Hun Manet's visit to Kuala Lumpur, leading a high-level Cambodian delegation, underscores the importance of Malaysia to Cambodia's foreign relations and the mutual interest in expanding their bilateral cooperation.
